Friends

Today is my best friends birthday. She and I have been at this friendship thing for over 20 years now. In a few months time she will stand with me, as my Maid of Honor, while I marry my love.

Our friendship has been mostly long distance. We grew up together but have not spent nearly enough time in each other’s presence over the years. Yet, our friendship remains steady and stable. When we do see one another it’s as if not a single day has past. I am so very thankful for her love, support, honesty and ability to call me out on my crap when needed.

I find myself at a stage in life when the majority of my friendships are long distance. Why does friendship change so much after college? I rarely spend time in the physical presence of my friends anymore, the landscape has changed. But the foundation remains. I cannot even begin to express the overwhelming humility that I have for all the wonderful friends that I have in my life. Precious, loving, generous people who have poured out their hearts to me over and over again. Year after year.

I hope my friends near and far know how much I love them, need them and support them no matter what. New friends, old friends, casual friends and heart friends – I value each and every one of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the time and energy you’ve invested into my life over the years. You are my most prized and valued treasure. Thank you for the laughs, the shoulders, the meals, the patience and the love. Much love and great friendships sweet friends.
