Christmas Eve has long been a big day for our family. It’s truly my largest Christmas celebration of the year, its the one at my sweet Mama’s house.
Several years ago, we established the tradition of wearing pj’s and making brunch for Christmas Eve. My brother, sister in law and nephews arrive around 9:30-10:00 in the morning and we eat brunch, open presents and just spend the day lounging and enjoying each other’s company. It’s truly a magical day.
I know this Christmas season may look differently for a lot of people. You may not be gathering with family, or not all of them anyway. I know that this time of year can be very difficult for people. We miss loved ones who are no longer with us and mourn the loss of our sweet traditions.
This year, may I encourage you to love on those around you harder? Embrace your families traditions. If someone in your family makes something you love, tell them how much you love it. If someone always encourages you and speaks kindly of you, thank them for their influence.
If this year has taught us anything, it has taught us that things change. Show appreciation for the things in your life that have been a constant for you. Love on those who have been good to you and mend bridges with those that have not. These festivities that we engage in are not a guarantee, they are a precious privilege. If we treat the things in our lives as privileges, our focus shifts to appreciation rather than expectation.
Friends, I hope your day is filled with love and joy. I hope you are with your family. If you are not, please know that you are on my heart. I pray for peace and comfort for you during this time. Much love and Christmas cookies sweet friends.
